Profile
Kathy joined Johnsons in March 2008 and was simultaneously admitted to the Roll of Solicitors in Northern Ireland. She had previously been admitted to the Roll in England & Wales after training and practising at specialist media and entertainment law firm.
Whilst in London, Kathy worked on numerous high profile cases involving the media, in particular in the fields of privacy and defamation. She acted in cases against the media on behalf of many celebrity clients. She also played an active role in the successful and much reported landmark injunction on behalf of the Law Society of England & Wales preventing English courts from giving retrospective effect to new provisions with regard to disclosure of court documents.
Whilst Kathy has specialist experience in media litigation she has had a considerable amount of exposure to mediation and other channels of settlement and is adept at calling on alternative dispute resolution when in the best interests of her clients to do so.
Kathy also advises clients in relation to intellectual property disputes and gives pre-publication advice to authors and publishers. She acts for both claimant and defendant clients.
Prior to undertaking her training contract Kathy worked for a Spanish law firm in Barcelona for a year. She is fluent in French and Spanish.
